A BD targeted temperature management (TTM) system — it cools, warms or maintains the patient's core temperature non-invasively, through ArcticGel™ hydrogel pads applied to ~40% of the body surface. THE TECHNOLOGY
Surface cooling with hydrogel pads + closed-loop control
The Arctic Sun 5000 controls the patient's core temperature by circulating temperature-regulated water through adhesive ArcticGel™ hydrogel pads applied to the chest and thighs. Unlike intravascular systems with a femoral catheter, the non-invasive approach reduces the risk of infection and DVT, with no additional cannulation.
The closed-loop algorithm continuously receives the temperature from the central probe (bladder, esophagus, YSI-400) and makes micro-adjustments every ~2 minutes — ~30 adjustments/hour — to keep the patient exactly within the target range. The high accuracy (±0.2–0.3 °C in studies) makes Arctic Sun the reference device in randomised trials of therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest.

The Arctic Sun 5000 covers the full spectrum of ICU thermal management — from therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest to controlled intra- and post-operative normothermia.
HYPOTHERMIA
Therapeutic cooling after cardiac arrest
Active cooling to 32–36 °C in the first hours post-ROSC for neuroprotection. Indicated per ERC/AHA guidelines — it significantly improves neurologically intact survival. Rapid cooling (~1.5 °C/h with optimally applied pads).

REWARMING
Controlled rewarming

FEVER
Refractory fever management
ICU patients with fever refractory to antipyretics (post-stroke, TBI, sepsis) — Arctic Sun actively keeps the temperature below 37.5 °C, preventing the neurological deterioration associated with hyperthermia.
